Captain’s verdictNaked Pea wins with 84 out of 100 to Orgain Organic Protein’s 56. It packs 27 g of protein into a 2-scoop (30 g) serving, delivers the cheapest 20 g of protein in our top 10 and carries Informed Choice certification, though it doesn’t publish lead numbers. Orgain lost points for a 143% Consumer Reports lead result (Vanilla Bean, October 2025), a July 2026 class action against Costco alleging lead in two Orgain flavors, and two low taste reviews. Orgain still makes sense if you want USDA Organic ingredients and a vanilla that’s already sweetened, since Naked Pea is plain pea and you bring the flavor.

Pick Naked Pea if

  • You blend protein into smoothies, oats or baking
  • You want one ingredient and no sweetener at all
  • You want the cheapest 20 g of protein in our top 10

Pick Orgain Organic Protein if

  • You want USDA Organic protein on a budget
  • You’d rather scoop a ready-made vanilla than doctor a plain powder
  • You like a four-source blend with 4 g of fiber

From the labels of the flavors and sizes we link, and our public scores.

Round 1: Protein and Nutrition

Winner: Naked Pea

Naked Pea 24/25, Orgain 15/25. Both use 2-scoop servings, but Naked Pea’s 30 g serving holds 27 g of protein for 120 calories, while Orgain’s 46 g serving holds 21 g for 150. That makes protein 90% of Naked Pea’s calories and 56% of Orgain’s, and gives Naked Pea the top protein score in our top 10.

Orgain spends its extra calories on 15 g of carbs and 3.5 g of fat. Its four-source blend and Naked Pea’s published amino profile, with about 2.5 g of leucine per serving, both earn full marks for amino-acid support.

Round 2: Value

Winner: Naked Pea

Naked Pea 25/25, Orgain 19/25. No powder in our top 10 delivers 20 g of protein for less than Naked Pea, and its 5 lb tub holds about 76 servings. Orgain is no slouch: it’s the third-cheapest 20 g of protein in our top 10, behind Naked Pea and Purely Inspired Organic.

Both are budget picks; the pea is just the bigger bargain. More wallet-friendly tubs live on our affordable list.

Round 3: Purity and Testing

Winner: Naked Pea

Naked Pea 19/25, Orgain 11/25. Naked Pea earns 4 points for Informed Choice certification, which screens for banned substances, not heavy metals. Consumer Reports didn’t test it, and Naked says it tests for heavy metals but publishes no lot results, so its lead levels are unconfirmed.

Consumer Reports measured Orgain Vanilla Bean at 143% of CR’s lead level of concern (October 2025). A July 2026 class action filed against Costco alleges lead in Orgain Vanilla Bean and Creamy Chocolate Fudge; those are unproven allegations, Orgain isn’t named as a defendant, and Orgain says it stands behind its products. Each item costs Orgain 2 points, and with no purity certification it has nothing to win them back.

Round 4: Taste and Texture

Winner: Naked Pea

Naked Pea 16/25, Orgain 11/25. Naked Pea is unflavored, so there’s no flavor for reviewers to grade, and our formula gives it a neutral 12 of 20 for taste plus 4 of 5 for mixing from BarBend’s solubility rating. BarBend warned it “may have a slightly gritty texture,” and Healthline’s tester wouldn’t drink it plain but said it blended well with almond milk.

Orgain’s Vanilla Bean got 2 out of 5 for taste and 3 out of 5 for mixing from both Garage Gym Reviews and BarBend, and GGR’s tester said it “tasted like grass with a hint of vanilla.” Orgain says it has since moved to a creamier taste, so those reviews may describe the older formula. Still, Naked Pea wins the taste round without entering the taste contest.

Round 5: Ingredients and Extras

Winner: Orgain Organic Protein

Naked Pea’s ingredient list is one line: pea protein from yellow split peas grown on US and Canadian farms. No sweetener, no gums, no added vitamins, nowhere to hide.

Orgain brings more to the party: USDA Organic pea, brown rice and mung bean protein with chia, organic stevia, agave inulin for fiber and 6.5 mg of iron. It also brings guar and xanthan gums, a creamer base and 390 mg of sodium, so minimalists may score it the other way, but on extras Orgain takes it (for an organic tub with even more, see Orgain vs Garden of Life).

Quick Questions

Is Naked Pea healthier than Orgain?

We don’t rate health, and the better fit depends on your diet. On the labels, Naked Pea has more protein (27 g vs 21 g per serving), fewer calories (120 vs 150) and no sweetener, while Orgain adds USDA Organic ingredients, 4 g of fiber and stevia. See the full Naked Pea and Orgain reviews for every number.

Did Consumer Reports test Naked Pea or Orgain for lead?

CR tested Orgain Vanilla Bean and measured lead at 143% of its level of concern per serving (October 2025). It didn’t test Naked Pea; it tested Naked’s Vegan Mass Gainer, a different product. Naked Pea’s own lead numbers aren’t published.

How many scoops make a serving of Naked Pea or Orgain?

Two for both. Naked Pea’s 2 scoops (30 g) give 27 g of protein, and Orgain’s 2 scoops (46 g) give 21 g. Use one scoop and you get about half.
