How We Picked

  • Only racks sold on Amazon by the brand that makes them. The experts’ favorite overall, the REP PR-5000, isn’t sold there, so it isn’t here.
  • Hands-on testing from Garage Gym Reviews and BarBend, quoted good and bad.
  • Specs from each maker’s own sheet: footprint, height, capacity, steel gauge and bolting.
  • CPSC recall checks for every brand. No rack on this page has been recalled.
  • Ranked by expert agreement, then value for a typical home gym, then variety.

#1
Titan Fitness T-3 Series Power Rack (82 in, 24 in depth)
Best overall

Titan Fitness T-3 Series Power Rack (82 in, 24 in depth)

A full four-post cage in the same 11-gauge steel you find on racks that cost a lot more. BarBend named it the best squat rack for beginners, scored it 5 out of 5 for durability and cost, and noted the 1,100-pound rating leaves plenty of room to grow. Garage Gym Reviews calls it a solid power rack with good value. At 82 inches, it slides under most basement ceilings.

  • 1,100 lb rackable
  • 2×3 in 11-gauge uprights
  • 82 in tall
  • Two pull-up bars

Why it made the list

  • 1,100 lb rackable, 4,400 lb for the whole rack
  • 1.25 in pull-up bar plus a 2 in fat bar
  • Pull-up bar tops out at 78 in, friendly to lower ceilings

Watch out for

  • No safeties in the box; Titan sells pin-and-pipe safeties separately
  • Titan recommends bolting it to the floor
  • Garage Gym Reviews rated the J-cups average and the welds so-so
  • Footprint: 54 × 32.75 in
  • Height: 82 in (91 in version also sold)
  • Capacity: 1,100 lb rackable
  • Steel: 2×3 in, 11-gauge
  • Bolt down?: Recommended by Titan
  • Safeties: Sold separately

#2
REP Fitness PR-1100 Power Rack
Best budget cage

REP Fitness PR-1100 Power Rack

The cage for people who want safeties and pull-ups without remortgaging the garage. Garage Gym Reviews calls the PR-1100 one of the best-value squat racks on the market, and GGR founder Coop said that for 99% of people it will do the job just fine. BarBend reached the same verdict. It stands on its own feet, so nobody drills into the floor.

  • Safeties included
  • No bolting needed
  • 700 lb capacity
  • Multi-grip pull-up bar

Why it made the list

  • Extended chrome safety bars come in the box
  • Freestanding: no floor anchors, no drill
  • Laser-cut numbers on the uprights

Watch out for

  • Thinner 14-gauge steel; BarBend noticed a slight wobble
  • Can’t be bolted. GGR says skip kipping pull-ups, and REP says no banded lifts
  • 3 in hole spacing makes dialing in bench height harder
  • Footprint: 58.1 × 48.5 in
  • Height: 85 in (82 in with the pull-up bar flipped)
  • Capacity: 700 lb
  • Steel: 2×2 in, 14-gauge
  • Bolt down?: No, freestanding
  • Safeties: Included

#3
Fringe Sport Garage Series Squat Rack with Pull-Up Bar
Best budget stand

Fringe Sport Garage Series Squat Rack with Pull-Up Bar

Two uprights, a pull-up bar on top and a footprint about the size of a card table. Garage Gym Reviews named it the best budget squat rack, and BarBend named Fringe’s squat rack with pull-up bar its best squat stand, with 5 out of 5 for value. Fringe shortened the uprights so it clears average garage ceilings. At 80 pounds, you can actually move it.

  • 45 × 47 in footprint
  • 85 in tall
  • Pull-up bar included
  • Weighs 80 lb

Why it made the list

  • Smallest footprint of the freestanding picks
  • Pull-up bar adjusts from 70.25 to 82.25 in
  • Tabs to bolt it down if you want

Watch out for

  • 12-gauge steel. Fringe’s site lists 600 lb; the Amazon title says 750
  • Footprint: 45 × 47 in
  • Height: 85 in
  • Capacity: 600 lb (Fringe’s spec sheet)
  • Steel: 2×3 in, 12-gauge
  • Bolt down?: Optional
  • Safeties: Sold separately

#4
PRx Performance Profile PRO Folding Squat Rack (89 in uprights)
Best folding

PRx Performance Profile PRO Folding Squat Rack (89 in uprights)

The rack that vanishes. It mounts to the wall, folds up on gas shocks and parks 4 inches out, so the car gets its garage back. Garage Gym Reviews and BarBend both named it the best folding rack. GGR’s founder loaded it past 600 pounds without it budging, and BarBend’s tester said it felt incredibly stable once set up properly. It’s also the priciest pick here, by a lot.

  • Folds to 4 in from the wall
  • 3×3 in 11-gauge steel
  • J-cups rated 1,000 lb
  • Made in the USA

Why it made the list

  • Folds flat in seconds
  • Heavy 3×3 in 11-gauge steel with laser-cut numbers
  • Limited lifetime warranty

Watch out for

  • Priciest pick on the page
  • No safeties included, and it bolts into your wall (not renter-friendly)
  • Needs at least a 94 in ceiling; PRx recommends 107 in
  • Width: 53 in
  • Depth: 29.25 in open, 4 in folded
  • Ceiling: 94 in minimum, 107 in recommended
  • Capacity: 1,000 lb on the J-cups
  • Steel: 3×3 in, 11-gauge
  • Mounting: Wall-mounted

#5
Titan Fitness T-3 Series Short Squat Stand
Best for low ceilings

Titan Fitness T-3 Series Short Squat Stand

Low basement? Meet your rack. At 73.5 inches tall, it fits under ceilings that make other racks duck. Garage Gym Reviews named it the best squat stand, gave it 5 out of 5 for durability and called the 11-gauge steel and 1,000-pound rating impressive on such a budget-friendly piece of equipment. The flat-foot base needs no bolts.

  • 73.5 in tall
  • 1,000 lb capacity
  • 47 × 48 in base
  • Cheapest pick here

Why it made the list

  • Fits under nearly any ceiling
  • Stands on its own, no bolting
  • Takes Titan’s T-3 spotter arms and add-ons

Watch out for

  • No pull-up bar (the taller version has one)
  • Spotter arms sold separately
  • Uprights aren’t numbered
  • Base: 47 × 48 in
  • Height: 73.5 in
  • Capacity: 1,000 lb
  • Steel: 2×3 in, 11-gauge
  • Bolt down?: Not required
  • Safeties: Spotter arms sold separately

#6
Titan Fitness T-3 Series Folding Power Rack (82 in, 21.5 in depth)
Budget folding

Titan Fitness T-3 Series Folding Power Rack (82 in, 21.5 in depth)

The fold-away trick for a lot less than the PRx. BarBend named this wall-mounted Titan its best rack for small spaces: it sticks out 22.5 inches when open and tucks to 5 inches from the wall. The catch is a big one. BarBend scored its stability 2 out of 5, said folding means moving a lot of parts, and advised skipping explosive, kipping moves.

  • Folds to 5 in from the wall
  • 22.5 in deep when open
  • 1,100 lb capacity
  • 2×3 in 11-gauge steel

Why it made the list

  • Folds out of the way when you’re done
  • 11-gauge steel rated to 1,100 lb
  • Pull-up bar included

Watch out for

  • BarBend stability score: 2 out of 5
  • Wall-mounting hardware and safeties not included
  • Folding takes more fiddling than the PRx
  • Width: 46 in
  • Depth: 22.5 in open, 5 in folded
  • Height: 82.375 in
  • Capacity: 1,100 lb
  • Steel: 2×3 in, 11-gauge
  • Mounting: Wall (hardware not included)

What Actually Matters

Ceiling first. Most racks stand 7 to 8 feet tall, and BarBend suggests 8 to 9 feet of total ceiling height so you can press overhead and do pull-ups without headbutting the drywall. Measure before you fall in love.

Footprint and steel. A power rack (four posts, a cage) eats the most floor; a squat stand (two posts) eats less. A lower gauge number means thicker steel. BarBend notes 11-gauge is what you’ll find on most racks; 12- and 14-gauge steel is thinner.

Bolted, freestanding or wall-mounted. Titan wants its T-3 power rack bolted down. The REP PR-1100 and Titan’s squat stand stand alone. Folding racks bolt into the wall. Renting? Freestanding is your friend.

Safeties often cost extra. Only the REP PR-1100 ships with safety bars. Budget for spotter arms or pin-and-pipe safeties on the rest.

The vegan check is easy. A rack is steel plus plastic liners on the J-cups. No upholstery, no leather.

Now Feed the Squats

The rack holds the bar. Your kitchen holds up the lifter. If you’re training for size, grab a powder from our list of the best vegan protein powders for muscle gain and let the rack handle the rest.

Quick Questions

What’s the difference between a squat rack and a power rack?

A power rack, or cage, has four posts, and you lift inside it with safeties on both sides. A squat stand has two posts, takes less floor and usually needs spotter arms added. A half rack sits in between.

How tall should my ceiling be?

Rack height plus room for pull-ups and overhead presses. BarBend suggests 8 to 9 feet in total. For low basements, the Titan T-3 Short Squat Stand is 73.5 inches tall, and PRx sells a 73-inch Profile PRO on Amazon that needs a 78-inch ceiling at minimum (91 recommended).

Do I have to bolt a squat rack to the floor?

Depends on the rack. Titan recommends bolting its T-3 power rack. The REP PR-1100 can’t be bolted. Fringe’s rack has optional bolt tabs, and Fringe says use them before kipping pull-ups. Titan’s short stand needs no bolts. Folding racks mount to the wall.

Has any of these racks been recalled?

We found no CPSC recall for any rack here (checked November 5, 2026). Two older accessory recalls: in 2018 Titan recalled about 970 sets of safety straps, including T-3 models 24T3STRAP and 36T3STRAP sold August 2017 through March 2018, because the stitching could come loose. In 2021 REP recalled strap-safety brackets for its PR-4000 and PR-5000, not the PR-1100.

Why isn’t the REP PR-5000 or a Rogue rack here?

Garage Gym Reviews and BarBend both named the REP PR-5000 their best squat rack overall and Rogue’s HR-2 their best half rack. Neither is sold on Amazon by its maker, and this page only lists racks you can buy there from the brand itself.
