Best Vegan Deodorants (2026): Fresh Pits, No Lab Bunnies

By Captain Vegan · Updated November 5, 2026 · 5 picks compared

Deodorant is the one product you put on every single day, which makes it a surprisingly big vote. Every stick here is a deodorant, not an antiperspirant, comes from a Leaping Bunny certified brand, and is vegan by its maker’s own word. Allure, Byrdie and Good Housekeeping did the sniff tests.

How We Picked

  • Gate one: the brand is in the Leaping Bunny database (checked November 5, 2026). Popular sticks from brands we couldn’t find there, like Native, Dove, Lume and Ursa Major, didn’t make it, however good their reviews.
  • Gate two: the maker says the product, or its whole brand, is vegan. Schmidt’s adds a separate Vegan Action certification.
  • Then the testing: Byrdie’s three-week test of 37 natural deodorants, its sensitive-skin roundup built with two board-certified dermatologists, Good Housekeeping’s aluminum-free list, and Allure’s 2026 Best of Beauty awards.
  • Every pick is a deodorant, not an antiperspirant. We checked each label.
  • Only listings sold by the brand or by Amazon. We never tested anything ourselves; findings belong to the outlets we link.

#1
Salt & Stone Deodorant, Santal & Vetiver
Best overall

Salt & Stone Deodorant, Santal & Vetiver

The cologne-counter pick that also does the dull job. Santal & Vetiver won an Allure 2026 Best of Beauty award. Byrdie put 37 natural deodorants through three weeks of long workdays, gym sessions and parenting, and named Salt & Stone its best-smelling pick: its tester, wearing the Black Rose & Oud scent, said the creamy stick went on without clumps and kept odor away all day and into the evening. Magnesium hydroxide, baking soda and tapioca starch do the work; shea butter and niacinamide come along for the ride. The brand calls it vegan.

  • deodorant, not antiperspirant
  • magnesium + baking soda
  • niacinamide + spirulina
  • seven scents
  • 2.6 oz

Why it made the list

  • An Allure award plus a hands-on Byrdie win
  • Seven gender-neutral scents
  • Creamy glide, no clumps in Byrdie’s test

Watch out for

  • Byrdie: can leave white marks on dark clothes

  • Size: 2.6 oz
  • Key ingredients: Magnesium hydroxide, baking soda, tapioca starch, shea butter, niacinamide

#2
Kopari Coconut Deodorant, Original
Best baking-soda-free

Kopari Coconut Deodorant, Original

The most-quoted stick in our pile: it shows up on three expert lists. Byrdie calls it the best natural deodorant (it’s also a Byrdie Eco Beauty Award winner) and says the clear formula dries down without residue or stains, though you may reapply more often than with other picks. Good Housekeeping named it the best plant-based option after a GH lab director praised the scent and the smooth, residue-free glide, and back in 2022 GH called it the best natural deodorant for working out. Coconut oil and sage oil, no aluminum, no baking soda. Kopari says all its products are vegan.

  • deodorant, not antiperspirant
  • no baking soda
  • coconut oil + sage oil
  • goes on clear
  • 2 oz

Why it made the list

  • Three expert lists across Byrdie and Good Housekeeping
  • No baking soda
  • Clear, no-residue glide

Watch out for

  • Byrdie: may need reapplying more often
  • GH: some Amazon shoppers found it irritating
  • Smallest stick and highest cost per ounce here
  • Type: Deodorant, not an antiperspirant; aluminum-free
  • Size: 2 oz
  • Key ingredients: Coconut oil, coconut water, sage oil
  • Cruelty-free: Leaping Bunny certified since 2020
  • Vegan: Kopari: all products vegan

#3
Schmidt’s Sensitive Skin Deodorant, Vanilla & Oat Milk
Best budget

Schmidt’s Sensitive Skin Deodorant, Vanilla & Oat Milk

The cheapest stick here by a mile, and it carries a third-party vegan certification (Vegan Action) on top of Leaping Bunny. Byrdie’s hands-on review of this Sensitive Skin stick found it glided on easily and handled odor well, but the tester needed to reapply after about 12 hours. Byrdie’s dermatologist-informed sensitive-skin roundup also names a Schmidt’s stick its best aluminum-free option. Schmidt’s says this line is baking-soda-free; magnesium and colloidal oatmeal lead the formula.

  • deodorant, not antiperspirant
  • Sensitive Skin line
  • magnesium + colloidal oatmeal
  • Vegan Action certified
  • 2.65 oz

Why it made the list

  • The cheapest pick here
  • Vegan Action and Leaping Bunny certified
  • Baking-soda-free line, per Schmidt’s

Watch out for

  • Byrdie’s tester got about 12 hours before reapplying
  • Vanilla scent; pick another if you want unscented
  • Type: Deodorant, not an antiperspirant; aluminum-free
  • Size: 2.65 oz
  • Key ingredients: Magnesium, colloidal oatmeal (per Byrdie)
  • Cruelty-free: Leaping Bunny certified since 2013
  • Vegan: Certified vegan by Vegan Action (all Schmidt’s products)
  • Owner: Unilever (deal announced December 2017)

#4
Megababe Rosy Pits Daily Deodorant
Sensitive-skin pick

Megababe Rosy Pits Daily Deodorant

Cute name, serious job. Byrdie’s sensitive-skin roundup, put together with input from board-certified dermatologists Dr. Joshua Zeichner and Dr. Amreen Sitabkhan, picked Megababe’s daily stick for its fresh rose scent and smooth formula. It goes on clear and skips baking soda. One catch: Byrdie’s write-up lists green tea, sage and horsetail extracts, while Megababe’s current Amazon listing highlights willow bark, oatmeal and amino acids in a water-based stick, so read the label if one ingredient matters to you. Megababe calls the formula vegan.

  • deodorant, not antiperspirant
  • no baking soda
  • goes on clear
  • fresh rose scent
  • 2.6 oz

Why it made the list

  • Chosen for a sensitive-skin list built with dermatologist input
  • No baking soda
  • Goes on clear

Watch out for

  • Byrdie: dries down slowly
  • Ingredient notes differ between Byrdie and the current listing
  • Rose scent only in this version
  • Type: Deodorant, not an antiperspirant; aluminum-free
  • Size: 2.6 oz
  • Formula: Water-based stick, no baking soda (brand)
  • Cruelty-free: Leaping Bunny certified since 2021
  • Vegan: Megababe’s Amazon listing: vegan formula

#5
Megababe Smoothie Deo, Coconut Lime
Best fruity scent

Megababe Smoothie Deo, Coconut Lime

Rosy Pits’ citrus sibling earned its own spot. On Good Housekeeping’s aluminum-free list, GH Nutrition Lab director Stefani Sassos says she has tried just about every aluminum-free deodorant and this is the one that works for her, through heavy training weeks, pregnancy and postpartum, without residue on her clothes. It uses lemon, orange and bilberry enzymes, smells like a beach bar, and skips baking soda and synthetic fragrance, per Megababe. The brand calls the stick vegan.

  • deodorant, not antiperspirant
  • lemon, orange + bilberry enzymes
  • coconut-lime scent
  • no baking soda
  • 2.6 oz

Why it made the list

  • A GH staffer’s daily pick for years
  • No baking soda
  • No synthetic fragrance, per the brand

Watch out for

  • GH: some shoppers say odor control falls short
  • Megababe says hot weather may call for reapplying
  • Type: Deodorant, not an antiperspirant; aluminum-free
  • Size: 2.6 oz
  • Key ingredients: Lemon, orange and bilberry enzymes (brand)
  • Cruelty-free: Leaping Bunny certified since 2021

Deodorant or Antiperspirant?

Antiperspirants use aluminum-based ingredients to cut down on sweat, and the FDA treats them as drugs as well as cosmetics. Deodorants go after odor and are plain cosmetics. All five picks here are deodorants, so you’ll still sweat like a normal mammal. The goal is that nobody notices.

Switching from an antiperspirant? Byrdie quotes board-certified dermatologist Dr. Carly J. Roman: the change can take a few weeks to get used to. Give a new stick a fair trial before you judge it.

What Actually Matters

Baking soda or not. Salt & Stone uses it. Kopari, both Megababe sticks and Schmidt’s Sensitive Skin line skip it. Byrdie notes some people find baking soda irritating, so if past natural deodorants bugged you, start with one of those four.

Clothes. Byrdie found Salt & Stone can leave white marks on dark fabric. Kopari and Megababe Rosy Pits go on clear.

Staying power. Brand claims run as high as 72 hours. Testers saw less: Byrdie’s Schmidt’s tester got about 12 hours, and Byrdie says Kopari may need a top-up. Keep a travel stick in the gym bag.

Who owns what. Schmidt’s belongs to Unilever, which announced the deal in December 2017; Leaping Bunny notes the parent isn’t certified. Leaping Bunny lists no uncertified parent for Salt & Stone, Kopari (Koco Life LLC) or Megababe.

Sweaty because you actually trained? Respect. Refuel with the best vegan protein for post-workout recovery.

Quick Questions

Are any of these antiperspirants?

No. All five are aluminum-free deodorants. They target odor, not sweat.

Is Leaping Bunny certified the same as vegan?

No. Leaping Bunny covers animal testing; vegan covers ingredients like beeswax or lanolin. We required both, and each pick names its vegan source.

Why isn’t Native on the list?

Native labels its deodorant vegan and earns good reviews, but we couldn’t find Native in the Leaping Bunny database on November 5, 2026, so it missed our first gate.

How long does a natural deodorant last?

Less than the box says, usually. Byrdie’s Schmidt’s tester got about 12 hours, and Byrdie says Kopari may need reapplying. Salt & Stone lasted into the evening for Byrdie’s tester.

Schmidt’s is owned by Unilever. Does it still count?

Schmidt’s itself is Leaping Bunny certified and Vegan Action certified, and Leaping Bunny flags that its parent company isn’t certified. That’s the fact; the call is yours.
